EcoHomes

EcoHomes is a flexible and independent assessment of the environmental impact of housing developments. Applied to both new and refurbished housing, it rewards developers who improve environmental performance through good design.

Now a requirement for many Local Authorities and Housing Associations, it is also of benefit to the private developer as a selling aid.

EcoHomes considers the broad environmental concerns of climate change, resource use and impact on wildlife, and balances these against the need for a high quality of life. This enables developers to use the result to promote whole sites - every house that is part of the development has the same rating. There are four categories of rating:

We provide a service that is quick and efficient. It is rare that a scheme gains the credits required without advice. Our advice and feedback has been developed to make it easy for you to understand, and where necessary incorporate changes in the  design or specifications.

We have had involvement in EcoHomes since the start of the scheme in 1995 when it was known as The Environmental Standard for Homes. Martin Shaw of The Energy Initiative was on the original Steering Group advising the scheme's development, and has maintained his link as an active assessor under the EcoHomes scheme.
