Monitoring and Targeting

Information is the key to improvement. Without Monitoring & Targeting (M&T), it is impossible to identify the key areas for investment and then drive the energy use down by setting targets.

The site audit starts with M&T, by establishing the Normalised Performance Indicator (NPI) or Specific Energy Consumption (SEC). These are used to compare the site with established norms.

It does not stop there. Data packages exist to enable your site(s) to set targets for energy consumption. Virtually every aspect of business has targets to meet. Why not energy? Small sites will get away with a simple spreadsheet, but for larger sites or multi-site companies, then a dedicated package is best. Remember energy costs account for 5% of your turnover.

The Energy Initiative does not have a M&T package, nor do we support an individual supplier, but we provide an independent analysis of the 3 or 4 packages in the UK that may best suit your needs.

We provide operating advice and training for some of the leading packages.

With additional site sub-metering, it is even possible to target individual processes.
